“Your Trendsetting Partner in Workplace Health”

Occupational Care South Africa (OCSA) is an occupational healthcare organisation dedicated to meeting the challenges of workplace healthcare in a changing society.

Beginnings

OCSA opened its doors in November 1995; since then, it has sustained a steady, upward growth curve that demonstrates why the company is viewed today as one of the leading providers of Occupational Health Services in South Africa.

Initially, OCSA was a doctor-based company, focused on doctor consulting, on-site services, and workman's compensation claim analysis. However, in early 1997, under the guidance of its executive team, OCSA re-aligned its business into strategic nurse-based occupational health services, in line with the broader health and economic needs of South Africa.

OCSA offers a comprehensive, cost-effective service, supported by management information systems, which enables decision-makers to become more responsive, decisive and proactive when dealing with workplace healthcare issues. Programmes such as its productivity management solutions are recognised internationally for their comprehensiveness and compassion.

OCSA is also well known for its focus on quality,  a characteristic that was recognised and acknowledged in 1999 when OCSA received the South African Excellence Foundation’s Commitment to Excellence entry-level award.

One Step Ahead: Reading the Trends

It is critical that companies have an understanding of the strategic trends developing around the provision of workplace healthcare in South Africa if they are to successfully implement occupational care programmes in the workplace.

OCSA invests in on-going, in-depth strategic research to stay abreast of developments in both the local and international occupational health environments. They are thus able to accurately analyse their clients’ needs and provide them with proactive solutions for their health-related challenges.

Examples of these trends are:

  • An exponential increase in the annual cost of healthcare; a burden which experts anticipate will continue to increase for the foreseeable future

  • Ongoing legislative changes that will shift more and more of the healthcare burden onto the shoulders of employers

  • A rapid escalation in the percentage of HIV positive employees, with the corresponding impact on absenteeism, lost skills, and the need for increased training programmes across-the-board

  •  The reality of the “global village” will make it critical for local companies to be internationally competitive

In addition, under the guidance of our empowerment partner, Ditikeni Trust, we are able to access the insights of 29 NGO's into the needs and beliefs of South Africa's grassroots communities.
